Centre for Security Studies Sarajevo (CSS), in cooperation with Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC), has organized Seminar on Euro-Atlantic Security with the topic „Perspectives of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s contribution to peace support operations in the future“, in hotel City Garden in Konjic on 27 – 28 May 2013.
The goal of the Seminar was to present current geopolitical and security situation in Euroasia, as well as overall roles of UN, NATO, and EU in resolution of complex challenges and risks in aforementioned area. Secondly, the Seminar aims at initiation of the discussion between leaders of key functions in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina on possible modalities to increase contribution of BiH to peace efforts in the World under auspices of previously mentioned international organizations with the focus on possibility of sending a contingent of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina on an UN mission. Thus, the Seminar has familiarise decision makers from BiH Ministries with the policies and procedures concerning reimbursement and control of contingent-owned equipment (COE) of troop-contributing nations in UN peacekeeping missions. Moreover, the participants had the opportunity to hear about the regional experience gained in various UN missions. The information should assist the BiH Ministries in making decisions concerning the future contribution of AFBiH to UN missions.
This joint project of governmental and non-governmental sector was one of many contributions to overall efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina in its process of integration to Euro-Atlantic security organizations as well as its positioning as a respectable partner in securing the world peace.
