SEMINAR: The CSDP Seminar

Centre for Security Studies, Sarajevo (CSS), in cooperation with the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) – NATO/Partnership Education and Training Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina has organized The CSDP Seminar from 3rd to 7th of June 2013 at PSOTC premises, Camp Butmir.

The Seminar is organized as a part of Euro-Atlantic Security Course. The aim of the Course is to enhance the understanding of the aspects of the EU approach in PKO as the EU with it missions gradually becomes more important global actor in providing necessary measures in promoting democracy and crises management. This will also be a good opportunity to share lessons identified and experience from EU missions in this area. The Seminar is designed mostly for the military officers deployed in PKO missions on senior or decision making level, as well for the post-graduate scholars.

It is important to mention that Faculty of Political Science of University of Sarajevo that recognizes this course as an elective subject in post graduate security studies with 6 ECTS. Attendance on the course reflects PSOTC’s project to engage civil society and encourage BiH university students to join AF BiH on appropriate courses.  In addition to 16 AF BiH students and 7 international students from Austria, Croatia, Turkey, Hungary, Albania and Macedonia, 12 students came from the following bodies: The Faculty of Political Science Sarajevo; Faculty of Philosophy Mostar; High School Logos Centre Mostar; The Faculty of Political Science Banja Luka and from Business School Doboj.

At the Closing ceremony organized at PSOTC main lecture hall the students were addressed by Minister of Defense BiH Mr.Zekerijah Osmić, Secretary General of the Center for Security Studies Sarajevo Mr Denis Hadžović, Security Studies of the  Faculty of Political Science Sarajevo Mr Izet Beridan PhD and PSOTC Commandant, Jasmin Čajić. The closing ceremony was also attended by Assistant Minister of Defense BiH Mr. Zoran Šajinović American University President Mr. Denis Prcić, and Security Studies of the Faculty of Political Science Sarajevo, Mr Vlado Azinović PhD.

This seminar is as a part of the CSS project titled „Support to institutional building of PSOTC in increasing their capacities for smooth transition to local ownership“. This project is aimed to support PSOTC in developing capacity and expertise in areas of SSR, Rule of Low and CSDP. Project is generously supported by Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
