Projekat “STEP – Jačanje institucionalnih kapaciteta kroz širenje iskustava učesnika u mirovnim misijama“

For the project description in English, please see below

Project “STEP – Strengthening of institutional capacities through sharing the experiences of participants in peace missions”

Since 2000, Bosnia and Herzegovina has actively participated in various international peacekeeping and peace-building operations by deploying military and police personnel; according to available information, women and men have the opportunity to participate equally. Participation in peacekeeping missions is of particular importance for institutions and participants. For institutions, it is an important resource which helps in the education and training of future participants, while the knowledge and experience gained during deployment to missions helps participants in their future professional career.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the capacities of police agencies and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in peace missions and operations worldwide, by conducting and publishing 10 interviews with persons who have participated in peace missions and persons who are responsible for the recruitment, training and deployment of personnel to peace missions, analyzing data from the security and defence sectors of BiH on persons who have participated in peace missions, and publishing a booklet containing the interviews and analysis, as well as interviewees’ recommendations for strengthening the capacity of security and defence institutions with regard to peace operations. Throughout the project, gender mainstreaming will be taken into account.

The project also seeks to determine whether and to what extent police agencies and the Armed Forces of BiH use the experience and knowledge of persons who participated in peacekeeping missions and operations in order to improve the capacity and deployment of future candidates to missions. Another project goal is to strengthen the role of women by showcasing the successful participation of both women and men in peacekeeping missions around the world.

The project “STEP – Strengthening of institutional capacities through sharing the experiences of participants in peace missions” is implemented by the Centre for Security Studies, and financially supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
