Centre for Security Studies Sarajevo (CSS), in cooperation with the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) – NATO/Partnership Education and Training Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina are organizing a Seminar „The Rule of Law in Peacekeeping Operations“ that will be held on the 23rd and 24th of April 2012 at PSOTC, Camp Butmir, Sarajevo.
The Seminar will be organized as a part of United Nations Police Course. The aim of the Course is to prepare police officers for UN Integrated/Multidimensional Peacekeeping Operation so they can work effectively with the outlined objectives of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions mandate. The aim of the Seminar is to enhance the understanding of the aspects of the Rule of Law approach in PKO as the police and judiciary staff gradually becomes more important actors in providing necessary measures in promoting democracy and assisting reconciliation process. This will also be a good opportunity to share lessons identified and experience from UN missions in this area. The Seminar is designed mostly for the police officers deployed in UN missions on operational or tactical level.
This seminar is organized as a part of the CSS project titled „Support to institutional building of PSOTC in increasing their capacities for smooth transition to local ownership“. This project is aimed to support PSOTC in developing capacity and expertise in areas of SSR, Rule of Low and CSDP. Project is generously supported by Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
